Research Theme

My research interest is in the history of the development and the use of atomic bombs during the second world war, and the Cole War history with emphasis on the role nuclear weapons played in it. Among research topics related to my interest are, dropping the atomic bomb over Japan in 1945, significant changes the development of the hydrogen bomb and the long-range ballistic missiles brought into the security relations among nations, and the Cuban missile crisis of 1962.

I expect that studying those topics will shed new lights on why and how decision makers saw nuclear weapons as a means of accomplishing their goals and acted in the way they actually did. I also believe that studying the "nuclear history" will provide us with a good starting point for examining theories and for making better policies.

We live in the age of the nuclear power and nuclear weapons. How did the nuclear weapon change the world? Why did it happen? What can history tell us about these questions? Students will have an opportunity to learn and find answers to these questions at the graduate school of peace studies at Hiroshima City University.
