本研究プロジェクトとは
本研究プロジェクトは、世界の反核運動史研究の現状と到達点を明らかにし、反核運動史におけるヒロシマの意義を再検討することを目的としたものである。2年にわたるプロジェクトの主要な課題となるのが、国際ワークショップの開催とグローバル・ヒバクシャに関する書籍の翻訳であった。
一つ目の課題である国際ワークショップについては、2023年12月8・9日に「反核運動史の原点としてのヒロシマ」を広島市国際会議場で開催した。本ワークショップは、グローバル平和研究ネットワーク（英国オープン大学およびシェフィールド大学）との共催で行ったもので、懇親会やケータリングなど研究者の交流のための助成金を、英国芸術人文リサーチカウンシルより受けた。イギリス、カナダ、アメリカ合衆国の報告者をはじめ、広島内外の研究者や学生を含め両日とも約20名が参加し、グローバル・ヒバクシャや広島の被爆の歴史、反核運動史などについて活発な議論を行った。
2024年度の主要な課題は、Robert Jacobs, Nuclear Bodies: The Global Hibakusha (Yale University Press, 2022) の邦訳である。本書は研究代表者である竹本および川口悠子（法政大学教授）、梅原季哉（広島平和研究所教授）、佐藤温子（青山学院大学准教授）各氏の共訳書として、2025年3月に名古屋大学出版会から出版された。加えて本研究課題では、ジェイコブズ、竹本がそれぞれに日本や世界の反核運動、ヒバクシャに関する議論の調査を進めた。
Current Research Trend of History of Antinuclear Movements

The Content of the Project
This research project aimed to analyze the current status of research on the history of antinuclear movements, and to reexamine the significance of Hiroshima in the history of these movements. The main tasks of the project were to hold an international workshop and to publish the Japanese translation of a book on global hibakusha.
As for the first task, we successfully held an international workshop, “Hiroshima, the Origin of Antinuclear Activism,” at the International Conference Center Hiroshima on December 8 and 9, 2023. The workshop was held jointly with the Global Peace Research Network at The Open University and the University of Sheffield and was partially funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) for the reception and catering. We had an intense and interesting discussion on antinuclear movements, and Hiroshima.
In the second and final year of the project we concentrated on the publication of the Japanese translation of Robert Jacobs’ Nuclear Bodies: The Global Hibakusha (Yale University Press, 2022), with significant contributions from the translators, Yuko Kawaguchi (Professor at Hosei University), Toshiya Umehara (Professor at the Hiroshima Peace Institute), and Nagako Sato (Associate Professor at Aoyama Gakuin University). The book was published in March 2025 by Nagoya Daigaku Shuppannkai (University of Nagoya Press). Additionally, Jacobs and Takemoto continued their research on global hibakusha, antinuclear movements, and Hiroshima.
