広島平和研究所は、人類史上最初の核兵器による被爆を体験した都市としての歴史を背景に、公立大学法人広島市立大学の附置研究機関として、1998年４月に設置されました。
いま、世界各地で戦争や紛争などの武力衝突が生じています。2022年２月、ロシア軍によるウクライナへの軍事侵攻が始まりました。ロシアは核兵器使用の可能性を示し、ウクライナを恫喝してきました。
2023年10月、パレスチナ自治区ガザにおけるハマスはイスラエルへの奇襲攻撃を行い、これに対して、イスラエル軍はガザ地区における空爆や地上侵攻などの武力攻撃を開始し、非人道的な行動を繰り返しています。
アジアでも、2021年2月、ミャンマー国軍が非常事態宣言を発出し、全権を掌握するクーデターを行いました。そして、クーデターに反対し、民主化を求める市民を弾圧しています。
私は、これらの地域での武力行使に強く反対します。武力行使の停止と平和的手段での問題解決を要請します。
武力紛争はこれらの地域以外も起こっています。戦争はなぜ繰り返されるのでしょうか。なにゆえに核兵器は廃絶されないのでしょうか。どうすれば平和的手段で対立する問題を解決していくことができるのでしょうか。
広島平和研究所は、被爆地・広島における学術研究機関として、これらの課題の分析・考察に取り組んでいきます。
2019年度に大学院・平和学研究科（現・博士前期課程）を立ち上げ、2021年度には博士後期課程を開設しました。大学院・平和学研究科での教育を通じて、平和の創造に貢献する人材を育成していくことをめざします。
The Hiroshima Peace Institute (HPI) was established on April 1, 1998, as a research institute affiliated with Hiroshima City University, located in the city that experienced the first atomic bombing in human history.
We now face serious military conflicts around the world. Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, and Russia has threatened Ukraine indicating the possibility of use of nuclear weapons.
After the Hamas attack in October 2023, Israel has launched a series of land and air attacks on Gaza. Israel has escalated its inhuman military operations.
The Myanmar Military issued an emergency declaration in February 2021. It has oppressed anti-coup protesters who are seeking democracy.
I am strongly opposed to the use of military force in these areas. I demand all parties to stop the use of armed forces and seek peaceful conflict-resolutions.
Military conflicts are occurring in other areas of the world. Why does warfare continue and why cannot nuclear weapons be abolished? How can we achieve a peaceful conflict resolution?
As an academic research institute in the atomic bombed city, the HPI will keep working on the analysis and examination of these issues.
We will continue to train future experts who can contribute to the creation of peace at the Graduate School of Peace Studies, which started its MA program in 2019 and PhD program in 2021.
