5. 講義の概要
東アジアの安全保障環境が変動の中にある。その背景には米中間の軍事バランスの変容がある。今後中国が2035年までに核弾頭を1000から1500まで増強すればそのバランスはさらに大きく変化するだろう。東アジアでの安全保障環境の変容はさまざまな領域で生じているが、空間的には台湾と朝鮮半島、また東シナ海、南シナ海などが重要だ。特に台湾については、「台湾有事」が日本にも関わることとして多く議論されるようになった。だが、そもそも中国の台湾政策はどのようなもので、台湾社会はどのように現状を受け止めているのか。本報告ではこの二点を中心に台湾問題を考えたい。
6．川島真氏の略歴
東京大学大学院総合文化研究科教授。東京大学大学院人文社会系研究科博士課程修了。博士（文学）。北海道大学法学部助教授、東京大学大学院総合文化研究科准教授を経て、2015年4月より現職。中曽根世界平和研究所研究本部長などを兼任。専門は、中国・台湾の政治外交史、国際関係史。『中国近代外交の形成』（名古屋大学出版会、2004年）でサントリー学芸賞受賞。その他の著書に、『習近平の中国』（編著、東京大学出版会、2022年）、『日中関係 2001-2022』（編著、東京大学出版会、2023年）など多数。2023年、外務大臣表彰。

5. Abstract of Forum
The security environment in East Asia is undergoing change. Behind this change lies a shift in the military balance between China and the United States. If China increases its nuclear warheads from 350 to 1000 or 1,500 by 2030 or 2035, the balance will change even more drastically. The transformation of the security environment in East Asia is occurring in a variety of areas, but spatially, Taiwan and the Korean Peninsula, as well as the East China Sea and South China Sea, are important. In particular, the "Taiwan contingency" has become a topic of much discussion as it relates to Japan. But what is China's Taiwan policy and how does Taiwanese society perceive the current situation? In this presentation, we would like to consider the Taiwan issue with a focus on these two points.
6. Profile of Lecturer
Shin Kawashima is a professor of the Department of International Relations, the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, the University of Tokyo. He earned his Ph.D.in Literature from Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, the University of Tokyo in 2000. After working as Associate Professor at Hokkaido University and at the University of Tokyo, he assumed his current position in 2015. His research covers Chinese/Taiwanese diplomatic history and the contemporary international relations in East Asia.
His first book, Formation of Chinese Modern Diplomacy (2004), was awarded the Suntory Academic Prize in 2004. He authored, Xi Jinping’s China (co-authored, University of Tokyo Press, 2022), Japan-China Relations, 2001-2022 (co-authored, University of Tokyo Press, 2023) among other publications.
