講師 佐々木和之（プロテスタント人文社会科学大学(PIASS)准教授、同大学平和・紛争研究学科長）
広島平和研究所では、下記のとおりHPI研究フォーラムを開催しました。本フォーラムは、日本アフリカ学会中国四国支部との共催により行われました。

「平和のために働く人材を育てる―ルワンダの経験から学ぶ」

４．講演の概要
世界を震撼させたジェノサイドから20年後の2013年5月、ルワンダに初めて平和学学士課程コースが創設された。本講演（第I部）では、この平和学コースの創設と発展のために尽力してきた講師が、平和のために働く次世代の人材育成を目指すプロテスタント人文社会科学大学（PIASS）における教育実践の内容と課題について、主に下記の問いに答える形で論じる。
・平和学コースは何を目指し、学生はいかなる動機からこのコースに入学するのか？
・教育内容にどのような特徴があり、教育方法として何に気をつけているか？
・コース運営上、これまでに経験した問題は何か？
第II部では、ブルンジ出身のPIASS卒業生フロリアン・ニュンゲコ氏、今年2月までPIASSに留学していた広島市立大学国際学部4年生の向地由氏、そして佐々木氏を交えてパネルディスカッションを行い、ルワンダそして日本で、平和構築について学ぶことの意味を考える。
５．佐々木和之の略歴
鹿児島大学農学部卒業。コーネル大学で修士号、ブラッドフォード大学で博士号（平和学）を取得。1980年代から90年代に国際NGOの職員としてエチオピアで農村自立支援に従事。エチオピア在住の2000年にルワンダを訪問し、紛争の深い傷跡に衝撃を受ける。2005年から現地NGOと協力して虐殺後の和解プログラムを展開し、2011年にPIASSの教員に就任。現地での活動は、NHK・BSドキュメンタリー「明日世界が終わるとしても」シリーズの「虐殺を越え“隣人”に戻るまで～ルワンダ・佐々木和之」（今年3月16日放映）で紹介された。

5. Abstract of the Forum
In May 2013, nearly twenty years after the Genocide in Rwanda, the Protestant Institute of Arts and Social Sciences (PIASS) established a bachelor’s degree program in peace studies for the first time in the country. Dr. Sasaki will introduce and examine the educational contents of the peace studies degree program as well as the challenges it has been facing with particular reference to the following questions:
- What is the purpose of the peace studies program?
- What motivates students to join the program?
- As a program established in Rwanda, what are the unique features of the program in terms of its educational contents?
- What are the major challenges faced in the implementation of the program?
After the lecture, there will be a panel discussion by Ms. Floriane Niyungeko (a Burundian graduate of PIASS), Ms. Yu Mukoji (a Japanese student of HCU) and Dr. Sasaki.
6. Profile of Kazuyuki Sasaki
Dr. Sasaki is a scholar-practitioner with over two decades of experience working in the field of peacebuilding and development, especially in Rwanda and Ethiopia. Since 2005, he has been supporting various peace and reconciliation initiatives of Rwandan people, one of which is the establishment of the Peace and Conflict Studies Department at PIASS, a higher learning institute where he currently works as senior lecturer. He holds a Master’s degree in Rural Development from Cornell University in USA and a PhD in Peace Studies from the University of Bradford in UK.
